DESCRIPTION: APW - E. Howard & Co, Boston, Series V with Cole's resilient escapement and unusual "wag" hand on dial demonstrating escapement action, L-S (just over 15S), 14K gold (tested) original Wm.B.W.&Co. HC with eagle hallmark, gold cuvette, bow with chain guards, white enamel SS dial with "wag" hand at 7:30 driven by mvt's lever, KWKS (key not included with this lot), gilt mvt, s#50203. Gross weight of assembled watch 72.2 dwt (112.3 g). A very unusual and intriguing piece with its Cole's resilient escapement and unusual extra dial hand; with this example included we have now seen three E. Howard & Co. dials with this similar additional hand placement at the 7:30 position demonstrating the escapement action.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good "wag" hand function, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, gilt plates with uneven tone and some ultra-fine scratch striations likely caused by past wiping, surface spot near third wheel jewel, mvt with a case screw position to right of "Boston" marking which is currently lacking a screw but case rim does have a corresponding witness mark indicating it once held a screw; flawless dial; nearly mint hands, tiny bend to tip of minute; case shows ample wear, two dents just right of center rear, short crease type dent at right edge of rear, only the slightest small bits of faint engine turning detail remain at perimeter adjacent pendant and thumbcatch, case front opens a small bit wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 100 degrees); tight bow, replacement push shows little wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $2000 - $3600
